"Last night’s (May 7) Arts High’s Spring Instrumental Music Concert was not only well executed, but was an extremely touching performance in light of it being Mr. Klelis’ final opus. Colonial Symphony Conductor Paul Hostetter greeted the audience and expressed his gratitude while reinforcing the value of the continued partnership that exists between Arts High and the Colonial Symphony. The three ensembles, Concert Band, Wind Symphony and String Orchestra all performed marvelously with support from Colonial Symphony members in the Wind Symphony and String Orchestra portions of the program.

The night was a true tribute to the 35 years of service Mr. Klelis has bestowed upon the Arts high community. Mr. Fairfax presented him with a beautifully framed piece of his original art which Mr. Klelis has always wanted. Students presented him with a specially framed and autographed shirt, flowers, balloons and a plaque. Mr. Klelis was swarmed with affection by parents, alumni, friends and students like a movie star at a premiere, which is certainly a manifested reflection of the nurturing educator he’s been throughout the years.
The closing of the show was sincerely heartfelt by all as select Concert Band members played an Argul arranged version of Haydn’s “Farewell Symphony” placing Mr. Klelis front and center stage on his string bass. As the piece came to a close, band members gradually left the rostrum affording Mr. Klelis the honor of being the last player standing, in the spot light, to play the last phrases of the music solo.
As the final note resounded through the concert hall and took its time to resonate in all of our chambers, Mr. Klelis reached toward the music stand, turned off his lamp light and it was done.
Bravissimo Maestro Klelis, and thank you…"
